NAKA detains eight people in Daniel Tupý murder case

The National Crime Agency has detained a total of eight individuals under Operation Karma, which concerns the murder of student Daniel Tupy in 2005, the Police Corps Presidium has reported on Facebook. The operation is being carried out in both Bratislava and Trnava region. "No further information can be provided at this moment," added the police. Daniel Tupy was murdered in the park on Tyrsovo Square in Bratislava on the evening of November 4, 2005, sustaining eight stab wounds. He and his friends, fellow students, were attacked by a group of men armed with knives and knuckle dusters. According to eye-witnesses, the attack lasted approximately one minute. A total of six people suffered injuries during the incident. The crime provoked many reactions condemning violence and manifestations of neo-Nazism. According to some media reports, the police at the time treated the murder as a case related to the underworld. A total of five individuals have been charged in the case, with a defendant identified only as Richard H. facing 15 years in prison. They were acquitted of the charges by Bratislava I District court in June 2009, however. Daniel Tupý's father is also reacting to the arrest of the suspects. He hopes there is enough evidence to stand. "We see the fact that today NAKA detained eight suspects in the case of our son's murder as positive. I can't comment further, I just hope that there is enough evidence to be able to bring charges after 48 hours that will stand up and will stand up in a possible trial," Daniel Tupý Sr. said to the Daily SME. Although 18 years have passed since the murder of 21-year-old philosophy student Daniel Tupý, his father believes that this investigation will bring some results.
