Slovak exports to the UK have increased almost 70-fold since 1993

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the seventh most important export market for the Slovak Republic. Over the past 30 years, trade on the import side has increased 38-fold, while Slovak exports have increased almost 70-fold over the past 30 years. This was announced on Thursday by the British Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia and the British Embassy in Slovakia at the Leader2Leader event in Bratislava, organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia. Chris Burton, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Europe, was a special guest at the event. He said that trade between the UK and Slovakia had never been higher. "I have to say that even after Brexit, our relationship is thriving and has never been more massive in terms of numbers. Defence, energy, food and agriculture, cutting-edge technology, these are all areas where you can see future growth. And, of course, it is not just your country that is open to investment, but mine too. So if Slovaks are looking for a safe haven to grow their business, the UK Government knows it and wants to help," said Burton.

In 2021, Slovak companies will export almost €3.5 billion worth of goods to the UK market. Motor vehicles, electrical machinery, mineral fuels and chemicals accounted for 80% of exports. Imports consisted mainly of motor vehicles, engines, tyres, spare parts, mechanical and optical equipment and pharmaceutical products. At the same time, according to Lucia Kišš, Director General of the Economic and Development Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, the UK is the third most popular destination for Slovak investors. Investments total around €300 million and are mainly in the areas of property development, information technology, energy and trade.
