Sales of electric cars in Slovakia increased by 64 percent

Interest in electric cars is growing in Slovakia. In the first half of this year, 1,086 new fully electric cars were sold. For the whole of last year, the figure was 1,390 vehicles. Compared to the same period last year, sales in the first six months are up by almost 64%.

In total, new passenger car registrations in Slovakia from January to the end of June reached almost 45.5 thousand. This is according to data published by the Association of the Automobile Industry of the Slovak Republic. Petrol cars are still the most popular in Slovakia.

In the first half of this year, 22,302 of them were sold. Slovaks also bought 7 870 diesel cars in the same period. As for classic hybrids, according to the association's data, 9,959 were sold with petrol engines and 1,982 with diesel engines.

A further 1,300 vehicles are plug-in hybrids. The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) publishes an annual overview of government subsidies and concessions in EU countries. However, Slovakia is in the group of countries that provide minimal support for the transition to electric vehicles.

In principle, a minimum registration fee of €33 and zero road tax for companies in the case of pure electric cars and a 50% road tax rate if the company owns a hybrid vehicle can be considered as concessions.
