Davis Cup Tennis: Molčan won the most valuable scalp in his career

At tournaments, he has already defeated Swiss Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. However, Slovak tennis player Alex Molčan called the Davis Cup victory over the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas the biggest in his career. "It's not every day that you can beat the world's top five in his native Athens, moreover, I won the decisive third point for Slovakia. I'm glad that I could please all the tennis fans in Slovakia. I managed the end in a really exemplary way. I would like it to be like that also in other matches. I'm glad that it happened right now in the Davis Cup match and that we advanced to the qualification for the final tournament," said Molčan after the triumph of his life.

Team captain Tibor Tóth described the success in Greece as very important for the future of Slovak tennis. "If we had lost in Greece, we would have fallen lower and had to fight to stay in the 1st world group. This way we have a chance to fight for the promotion to the final tournament again in February." The Slovak bench boss believes that his team will be lucky in the draw of the qualifying pairs in November. "The last draws were quite strict for us. First we got Italy at home with Jannik Sinner, then the Netherlands and now Greece with Stefanos Tsitsipas. I hope that luck will finally smile on us and we will get an opponent through whom we can advance to the final tournament. This group of players deserve it. All the guys work hard and fight, playing for Slovakia is a great honor for them. I told Igor Zelenay that he can't retire from tennis yet. He still has a year to go."
