State authorities on 1918 Czechoslovakia

Marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, Slovak President stated that the free development that both countries have undergone ever since 28 October 1918 is a gift, the value of which can be found in the legacy of such statesmen of the era as Tomas G. Masaryk, Milan R. Stefanik and other founding fathers of the democratic tradition.

"Even though Slovakia and the Czech Republic have each taken their own paths, I'm convinced that there's still a lot more of what unites us than divides us," she added.

Even though erstwhile Czechoslovakia did not manage to avoid several problems, its founding was proven as the right decision, Prime Minister Robert Fico declared to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia on Saturday. "It was by virtue of Czechoslovakia that foundations of democratic tradition were laid in Slovakia and a road was paved for the creation of education, national culture and modern economy," Fico posted on a social network.

On Friday, Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini expressed his wish that even contemporary politicians would be able to unite on fundamental issues and overcome personal and political egos, just as did the founders of the first Czechoslovak Republic Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, Edvard Benes and Milan Rastislav Stefanik. Czech ambassador to Slovakia Rudolf Jindrak praised the fact that Slovaks also profess the joint legacy of October 28, 1918. "I'll do everything to ensure that Czechoslovak relations, even after the elections in Slovakia, are the best and most intensive for the benefit of the citizens," added Jindrak.
