At the Visegrad Four meeting in Prague, the presidents of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary discussed security and infrastructure. In the words of Polish President Andrzej Duda, “new highways and railway links are important not only for the economic development of the region but also for the security of the countries.” It also facilitates the delivery of help for Ukraine from Baltic seaports.
“We are all in agreement that Ukraine still needs our support and that we need to support Ukraine,” Duda stressed.
Czech President Petr Pavel, said all help was welcome. “The Russian aggression affects us all, and so therefore supporting Ukraine is a matter fundamental for our security, as well as a natural human reflex.”
Hungarian President Katalin Novák, said the Visegrád Group cooperation is “alive and with a bright future ahead,” and added that she wished to inform all those who thought the V4 is no longer functional, that “we still exist, we maintain contacts.”
As for the Russo-Ukrainian war, she said that the V4 leaders are on the same page.
“Russia cannot win this war,” Novák said. “We want to help Ukraine as much as possible so that it can successfully defend its country and its people,” she said.
Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová said that to continue economic success, the V-4 should move on, from being a centre for assemblage to a research and development centre, creating added value.
