Peter Pellegrini, the Parliamentary Chair, informed that a special House session over missteps regarding the Expo Dubai 2020 exhibition could be held on Tuesday, December 5. Smer-SSD initiated it. PM Robert Fico insists that financial resources were mismanaged in Dubai. Hence, Fico said, that former Economy Minister Richard Sulík should pay the damages to the state.
The Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) found several shortcomings with respect to the Expo Dubai 2020. According to NKÚ, more than 600 thousand euros was mismanaged, out of which 400 thousand euros has become a subject of a lawsuit over the way it was spent on the Take Away restaurant in Dubai. Based on the NKÚ, Economy Ministry failed several times in the preparation and organisation of the World Expo Dubai 2020.
Earlier this week, Sulík claimed that he hadn't make any mistake as economy minister.
Sulík admited that there were shortcomings in the accounting, but he said it doesn´t mean that money was squandered. Sulík mentioned that on the contrary a million euros was saved from the properly approved budget.
