Details from the latest Eurobarometer opinion poll show that Slovaks are still ambiguous about supporting Ukraine.
Overall, 60 percent of Slovaks don’t want the European Union financing and supplying military equipment to Ukraine. Only 34 percent of Slovaks were positive about military aid, three percent less than in the spring.
Slovaks are less willing to provide military aid to Ukraine than their neighbours. In Poland, 85 per cent approve of military aid to Ukraine. In Hungary and Austria, approval was 43 per cent, in the Czech Republic 42 per cent.
For the European Union as a whole, 60 per cent of the people support military aid.
In a broader context, looking at the overall EU policies towards Ukraine, Slovaks are more positive. Just over half of Slovaks are satisfied with the EU's response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And that is up 12 per cent since the beginning of the year.
The question “how do you think your government is doing?” is a bit complicated because the government changed while the poll was taken (between 23 October and 10 November). 48 per cent of Slovaks were satisfied, 47 per cent not. That’s about the same level of approval as in Austria and Czech Republic. In Poland, 70 percent approved of their government’s handling.
The European-wide data were filtered for Slovakia by Focus, a department of Globsec.
