COVID-19 pandemic management to be investigated

Peter Kotlár from SNS became the Government Proxy for Investigation into the Management of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he became famous for his criticism of the anti-pandemic measures in alternative media. Kotlár has previously criticised the Health Minister Zuzana Dolinková in particular for trying to increase COVID vaccination capacity.
Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the proxy will assess and analyse the legality, economy and effectiveness of the measures taken in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2022. Fico thinks that fundamental rights and freedoms were violated during the pandemic. Former Health Minister Marek Krajčí shared his view on pandemic management during Eduard Heger´s and Igor Matovič´s governments: “I think they did the best they could in that situation and with the availability of all the latest knowledge about the disease."
Kotlár wants to examine whether the COVID-19 pandemic was really a pandemic. However, he did not refer to any studies supporting his claim. Kotlár claimed he intends to head the investigation in cooperation with an expert team of scientists, doctors and lawyers. Kotlár says Slovakia would not do well if the pandemic starts again and the government take the same steps as in the past.
Peter Kotlár: “In particular, new diagnostic procedures need to be proposed. It is necessary to investigate how the diagnosis was made during the COVID in Slovakia. There was a problem with artificially high numbers of patients not only for COVID.”
Kotlár claims. However, MP Oskar Dvořák of Progresívne Slovensko disagreed with Kotlár's appointment as proxy. He criticises Kotlár's incompetence to conduct any investigation in this area. He also pointed out that a similar investigation is already being carried out by the Slovak Prosecutor General's Office. Even KDH called Kotlár a conspiracy theorist.
