At a press conference on Thursday the Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová said that a priority for her party SNS is to replace the RTVS general director Ľuboš Machaj, because he is unable to govern the institution efficiently.
She said that she hasn't yet decided on who will replace Machaj.
Andrej Danko, the SNS party chairman, said the reason for making changes to RTVS is the need to bolster its financial stability as well as the fact that the institution has failed to demonstrate a character that a real public-service medium should have. He said he wants to allow the public TV and radio stations to broadcast more advertising, to create more revenue.
The President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová said Thursday there is no real reason to create ‘a new RTVS,’ except one, and that is the effort to take over it politically. “That is a misunderstanding of the civilized space in which we decided to operate after the fall of totalitarianism, which includes strong and independent public media," she said.
