End of the Special Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Special Prosecutor’s Office will close. This the department that has concentrated on corruption, money laundering and organized crime. After the changes in the Criminal law passed by Parliament in January, the members of this office will be re-assigned to the General Prosecutor’s Office. Some will move to regional prosecutor offices.

The head of the Special Office, Daniel Lipšic, was assigned to the legislative department of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Lipšic said that two prosecutors of his team were reassigned to the prisons department, and others are still waiting to hear where they will be put to work.

Lipšic also said that a serious crime unit will be created at the PG's Office, with eight prosecutors, of which six from his Special Prosecutor's Office. Cases where an indictment already has been filed will stay under the prosecutors who prepared the cases, he said. Initially, all cases were to be transferred to regional offices; now it is decided on a case by case basis, he said.
