Helping the job market

Two ministries announced measures to stimulate the job market.

The Ministry of Labour launched a new initiative to encourage employers to hire young, inexperienced people.

The state will pay up to 1,300 euro, or 70% of the average wage, for the first six months of employment. "This project will mainly affect young people,“ said Labour Minister Erik Tomáš. “But it can also be used by people who work abroad and want to return, because they have not yet had their first job in Slovakia," he said.

And the Education Minister, Tomáš Drucker, announced scholarships for students who choose a profession that is in high demand. They will receive 4,000 euro in their first year, more in the second year, and a graduation bonus of 8,000 euro if they graduate.

"Slovakia has long been registering a shortage of employees in some sectors of work, whether we are talking about nursing, teaching, the automotive industry, IT, engineering and the well-known problem with the lack of experts in the nuclear power industry," Drucker said. The program is open to a maximum of 400 students.
