Pellegrini on Russian hospital attack in Ukraine

President Peter Pellegrini condemned the Russian missile attack on the largest children's hospital in Ukraine in a statement on made on Tuesday, July 9 before the start of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) summit in Washington. Ukraine claims that the Russian military hit the Ochmatdyt hospital in Kyiv during the day on Monday July 8. These Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital left at least 27 dead and 117 injured.

"It is a great tragedy and misfortune for all the victims, the injured and their families. Such attacks tell us that Russia has no interest in negotiating. But if we do not try anyway, the number of victims will increase not only on the front, but also among the civilian population, and Ukraine will be an increasingly decimated country,” says Pellegrini.

Pellegrini plans to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington and to discuss his vision of ending the conflict in Ukraine. On Tuesday, Pellegrini also met with Slovak compatriots living in Washington accompanied by the Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár. They expressed respect to all Slovaks who have moved abroad permanently, but still preserve Slovakia’s national and cultural traditions.
