Slovak politicians condemn attack on Donald Trump

The Slovak Republic condemns the attack on U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry posted on a social network on Sunday, with the head of Slovak diplomacy Juraj Blanar stressing that violence is not a solution to political disagreement.

On the same day, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini wrote on a social network that the use of violence in the pursuit of one's political opinion must always be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Opposition parties have also denounced the shooting stressing that violence has no place in democratic politics.

Meanwhile, Slovak PM Robert Fico likened the Trump attack to his own situation referring to the assassination attempt from May 15. He wrote on social media that political opponents of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump are trying to lock him up and, when that does not work, they're trying to set the public against him so much that someone picks up a weapon. In his statement, he also criticised some Slovak media.

U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania, in an attack now being investigated as an assassination attempt. The attacker was shot dead and law enforcement officials said they had not yet identified a motive. One spectator at the rally was killed and two critically injured.
