The European Commission (EC) is reviewing Slovakia's recent Criminal Code reform but has not decided to block EU funds. This follows a Bloomberg report suggesting that Slovakia might lose access to EU cohesion funds due to the abolition of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. Bloomberg’s sources claimed this could affect €12.8 billion in cohesion funds and €2.7 billion from the EU Recovery Plan.
Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár rejected the report as false, stating that no such move has been signalled by the EC. He emphasized that any decision regarding the suspension of EU funds follows established procedures and discussions with member states. Slovakia’s Justice Ministry is in active communication with the EC to address concerns and provide the necessary documentation related to the reform.
