After days of heavy rain that caused flooding across Central Europe, Slovakia is set to experience a shift in weather as Indian summer begins on Wednesday. The rain will become more sporadic, according to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ). The Danube in Bratislava has already peaked, but southern regions are still waiting for the water levels to rise.
Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba (SNS) reported that the Danube reached a height of 9.7 meters overnight. Flood-related damages across Slovakia are estimated to be around 20 million euros. SHMÚ's forecast indicates that water levels should begin to recede. However, hydrological warnings and flood alerts remain in effect. Although rainfall has mostly subsided, showers may still occur in mountainous areas. Elsewhere, the forecast is for partly cloudy to overcast skies with temperatures rising to between 17 and 22 degrees. Winds will be light, reaching speeds of up to 20 km/h. While rain warnings have been lifted, fog warnings are in place until 8:00 AM, mainly across the western and central regions of the country.
