Central European countries, including Slovakia, recently impacted by floods, will receive financial aid from the EU's Solidarity and Cohesion Funds. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting with the prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia in Wroclaw. Up to €10 billion will be available from the Cohesion Fund to assist in recovery efforts. Von der Leyen highlighted that the EU's Copernicus satellites are monitoring the situation to provide real-time data on the floods. The Solidarity Fund will be used for repairing infrastructure, such as roads, railways, and bridges. Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed relief that his country avoided fatalities, unlike its neighbors, and emphasized the importance of the EU's support. Meanwhile, Austria and the Czech Republic also outlined their own national aid packages, bolstered by EU funds.
