Prime Minister in Brussels

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico left for EU summit in Brussels on Thursday. He stressed the need for "decisive and tough solutions" on migration during the opening. According to Fico's post on Facebook, he met with leaders from several EU countries, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, to push for stronger actions on migration.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala had earlier announced that several EU countries, including Slovakia, would advocate for a firmer stance on migration. Fico emphasized that protecting the Schengen borders and addressing the root causes of migration remain key priorities for Slovakia.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which he mentioned his meeting with Fico. It was the first time the two leaders had met. Zelensky urged Slovakia to support Ukraine, warning that failing to do so would expose the country to the full extent of Russian President Vladimir Putin's aggression. Zelensky remarked, "We need to maintain relations between our countries, and it's crucial to recognize the threat Putin poses." He also praised NATO and its member countries for their support of Ukraine, reiterating that Ukraine aspires to join the alliance in the future.
