In the pilot project of body cameras for police officers, 16 of them will be deployed. Six of them will be given to police officers in Bratislava and 10 to police officers from Košice, said the Communication Department of the Police Presidium.
The Police Corps plans to train officers to use the cameras. "Our effort is to equip all regional police headquarters with body cameras as soon as possible," the presidium said.
Police Corps President Ľubomír Solák announced at a press conference on Monday (18 November) that the corps plans to introduce a pilot project of body cameras from 1 December. Human rights experts have been demanding the widespread deployment of the cameras from politicians for years. The measure came after a well-publicised incident in Košice, where a police officer was alleged to have inflicted injuries on a detained man while on duty on 5 November, to which he succumbed in hospital the next day.
