The Slovak Arts Council (FPU) new statute was not approved at Wednesday’s board meeting but is expected to be decided on 29 January 2025, according to its director Róbert Špoták.
On the Wednesday meeting, the Council’s Board approved a new version of the Rules of Procedure. According to Špoták, the changes broaden the possible grounds for dismissal of the chairman of the board and introduce new powers for board members that interfere with the employment relations of the council’s staff. The intention to change the existing status of the institution was criticized on Wednesday by the self-governing regions. Their SK8 association claims that the draft statute submitted by the Arts Council, led by the nominees of Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee), excludes several important sub-programmes, including support for cultural centres, festivals, museums, galleries and libraries.
