The gender pay gap is a long lasting issue of the Slovak job market. The organizers of Equal Pay Day initiative, together with the research agency 2muse, processed a study related to salary inequality in Slovakia, which was created as part of their upcoming conference in Slovakia. Overall 60% of the 1015 respondents, composed of working people aged 18+, think that financial evaluation is affected by discrimination based on gender. Pay Transparency Directive drawn up by the European Union is handling this kind of discrimination. Advocate Jana Pešlová: "There are a lot of cases of discrimination. In my own experience, I have seen cases where many women ran away from their job instead of dealing with it because they did not yet had the support to be able to turn to the labour inspectorate, court or to the actual employer and to be able to claim that there was an employee earning a different wage under the same conditions. Especially when they did not have enough evidence. There is a new directive made by the EU called Pay Transparency Directive and it is supposed to ensure better access to information, better access to evidence that the employee can then use and be able to defend themselves. It is a directive to ensure equal pay between men and women. It was adopted in 2022 and should be effective in 2026."
